Data Integrity Protection Schemes:
Techniques and algorithms to detect, report and correct silent
data corruption events while maintaining system performance.
RAID Storage System for Petascale Supercomputers:
IBM’s Programmable Easy-to-use Reliable Computing
System (PERCS), chosen by the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency
(DARPA), is one of two system designs to be developed
and demonstrated as part of phase III of the High Productivity
Computing Systems program (HPCS).
Storage Platform Resiliency:
Evaluate and identify different system architectural techniques
to increase software resiliency while maintaining existing
storage system software investment.
Tiburon:
IBM’s DS8000 Storage server is built on the POWER5
architecture platform, which supports logical partitions,
or LPARs. The Tiburon project in Research explores the synergy
between storage and servers by offloading appropriate
application functions (including middleware such as DB2) into
virtual machines running on storage controllers, to achieve
better end-to-end value for our customers.
Wise Ordering of Writes:
A novel and simple algorithm to manage nonvolatile write
caches by combining temporal and spatial locality in an
elegant way.
IBM Almaden Research - Advanced Storage Systems
GPFS:
General Parallel File System (GPFS) is a scalable, parallel, cluster file product that originated
as Almaden's Tiger Shark file system. It now supports IBM® Blue Gene® and IBM®
™ Cluster systems, including the Linux (Cluster 1350) and the AIX (Cluster 1600) systems.
GPFS for Petascale Supercomputers:
IBM’s Programmable Easy-to-use Reliable Computing System (PERCS), chosen by the
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA),
is one of two system designs to be developed and demonstrated as part of phase III of the
High Productivity Computing Systems program
(HPCS).
Glamour:
An NFSv4-based file system federation middleware layer that enables clients to seamlessly navigate data
spread across multiple, heterogeneous and widely distributed file servers. Glamour is not a globally
distributed file system. Instead, it enables a set of loosely coupled file servers to function as one.
Scale-out File Serving:
Provides a gateway solution that broadens the range of environments that can
benefit from storage consolidation and advanced data management.
IBM Almaden Research - File Systems
Storage Management:
Our vision is to develop integrated storage network analytics & performance management tools to
aid policy-based autonomic resource provisioning of storage networks on IBM TotalStorage
Productivity Center (TPC), an open solution designed to manage complex, heterogeneous
storage infrastructure.
Intelligent Data Storage:
Organizations are under increasing pressure to properly
retain and manage their records.
The Intelligent Data Storage (IDS) project is a collaborative effort
between the storage systems and computer science teams to develop
techniques and solutions for handling new and emerging forms of
archive.
Mirage:
Mirage is an intelligent out-of-band storage optimization engine
that provides autonomic analytics for optimal storage resource
allocation, migration, consolidation and tiering in complex
virtualized data center environments. An important philosophy
of Mirage is to provide time-tested solutions that minimize
configuration changes into the distant future.
SMART:
Storage Management Analytics and Reasoning Technology (SMART)
is a self-evolving, corrective action engine that optimizes
storage-resource allocation in a fully automated, cost-efficient
way so most clients experience predictable performance in their
accesses to a shared, large-scale storage utility.
Storage Management for Petascale Supercomputers:
IBM’s Programmable Easy-to-use Reliable Computing System
(PERCS), chosen by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
(DARPA), is one of two system designs to be developed and
demonstrated as part of phase III of the High Productivity
Computing Systems program
(HPCS).
